The city and state will share information on the "undergroundeconomy" of tax cheats to bolster revenue collections, under anagreement signed Wednesday by Gov. Edgar and Mayor Daley.
The agreement, the first of its kind between the state and alocal government agency, calls for the Illinois and ChicagoDepartments of Revenue to exchange computer tapes, share taxpayeraudits and withhold licenses from businesses that owe city or statetaxes.
Until now, Edgar said, pooling information on the range of taxescollected by the city and state has been "hit and miss."
