Vic: Magistrate could 'fill prisons' with disqualified drivers

A Melbourne magistrate says he could fill Victoria's prisons if he jailed every disqualified
driver caught behind the wheel that came before his court.

Magistrate ROGER FRANKLIN's made the claim after sentencing a five times suspended
driver to jail.

The man crashed his car head-on into another while using sleeping pills.

The Herald Sun reports Mr FRANKLIN told the Heidelberg Magistrates' Court he gets a
minimum of 10 to 15 a week .. and he's just one magistrate out of 70 or 80.

The paper says more than seven thousand disqualified drivers were convicted in 2006/07 alone.
